Electrocoagulation, sometimes called thermocoagulation, is a medical procedure that involves applying a needle through which passes an alternating electrical current at high frequency into the affected tissue. The application of the needle results in the localized destruction of this tissue. This method is used in dermatology to treat spider veins, some birthmarks or warts, but also in many other disciplines.
Small blood vessels (telangiectasia): This is a permanent dilation of small superficial blood vessels on the cheeks, the nose, and sometimes the chin and forehead.
Spider Veins: These are small reddish lesions (dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin) that start with a small red dot, with a central artery, evoking a star-like shape.
Milia grain: This is a skin eruption that forms small yellowish-white grains the size of a pinhead, usually appearing on the face, particularly around the edge of the nose. These grains are made up of small sebaceous cell clusters caused by blocked channels beneath the skin.
Skin tags (molluscum pendulum) are small benign, flesh-colored or pigmented growths on the skin. Skin tags can appear anywhere on the body or face, but are often in the crease of the neck, groin and armpits. Nearly one out of two persons will develop skin tags, and if left untreated, they can spread over the body.
Papillary varix: This is a small permanent dilatation that forms a bright red dot on the skin, usually so small in diameter, that it is barely visible.
Sunlight must be avoided before and after each session to limit the risk of scarring or residual pigmentation. During the sessions, slight bleeding may occur at the impact of discharges. Small scabs may form after procedures, but will usually fall off after a week, sometimes longer, without a trace. Some redness may occur following treatmest, but will usually disappear within 48 hours. In the case of particularly sensitive skin, redness may persist for up to one week.
